Number 3: Win an Award, Trophy or Prize

Completed: 2020/21 Fantasy Premier League Season and 2021/22 Fantasy Premier League Season
Competition: Won the work Fantasy Premier League two consecutive seasons

I’ve won a few small things over the years, like a Stargate Atlantis box tin from the Sci-Fi channel or small work events like poker tournaments and bowling competitions but really wanted to hold off marking this one as complete until I won something bigger or more competitive. However due to my lack of sporting ability or desire, it did limit my options. Until one day in mid 2020 when someone proposed the creation of a work fantasy football league.

Past wins, but not enough for list completion

Fantasy football is something I had been wanting to try out and play for many years since learning about it from the FX series The League, and while the work league was for the English Premier League (EPL) instead of the US based National Football League (NFL), I was still very keen to give it a try since it was the year 2020 which was loaded with lockdowns and shutdowns due to the global pandemic and so I was one of the first people to join.

I then spent countless hours researching what I had gotten myself into, looking at suggestions and rules and meta players and teams since my baseline knowledge of EPL was next to zero. I was very grateful for all the blogs and Reddit posts available for me to be able to get somewhat of a solid baseline team.

While I’m lacking some data from the 2020/21 season, I’ve noted down the scores that I could locate from historical sources and created a chart of the league scores and ranking. How did my very first season playing FPL go, well a moderate start, keeping in the top 3 with a very close league into a small lead for the first few months, before taking a bit of a slump and dropping back down to 3rd or 4th for a bit. Then over the Christmas/New Years break, I was able to capitalize and make some gains getting back to top position and from that point on, never letting it go.

What was being sent in the mail, well my first trophy for the win.

Then after several months of downtime, the post went out for the commencement of the 2021/22 season. I had to talk myself up, since I was the reigning champion but I was not about to rest on my laurels since there was over double the amount of players this season. It was straight into team building and planning, with a lot more knowledge than I had from the previous season and a lot of reddit hours on the FPL Reddit page and was able to smash out GW1 with a massive 20 point lead to remind people how incredibly great I am.

But the 2021/22 season was me taking an early lead, only dropping it for an occasional GW or two early on while the meta of who were the strong teams and players emerging was before taking that lead into GW9/10 and never looking back. With the 2021/22 season I was able to track and score full league stats at the end of the season because I was a bit more aware of the reporting tools and it now makes it easier so you can see how I went.

And since the person that originally created the company leagues left the company prior to the end of the season, but I did still win it fair and square I bought myself the second trophy while attempting to find the same model/design and naming convention as the previous season, but with that consecutive win for the 2021/22 season, I’m marking Number 3 as complete.

With two seasons as champion, marking Number 3 as done.
